Gill Marine: Boosting revenue by 54%

Building on an established foundation

Gill already had a very loyal fanbase, however in order to grow the online business further and acquire new customers Gill knew they would have to invest in an online marketing strategy.

They asked us to come on board and help drive more traffic to the site, improve conversion rate and provide recommendations on how the usability of the website can be improved.

Even slight improvements to the critical elements of an e-commerce website can lead to a significant increase in overall performance. We started by looking at where we could achieve gains across the five key performance indicators in our 5 Ways planning tool: new customer site visits, new customer conversion rate, average order value, repeat purchase rates and margins.

Hitting the ground running

Once we’d completed the 5 Ways modelling, we launched a new PPC campaign, where we provided recommendations for making the site search engine friendly and helped work on a new design for the site to make it more user friendly.

In addition to this we also worked on an email campaign strategy to encourage repeat purchases. Part of our strategy was recommending a different look and feel to the emails, more regular sends and a mobile version of the email.

Achieving impressive returns

PPC now accounts for 30% of the additional revenue through the site, and when looking at January to August 2014 we achieved an ROI of 262%. Revenue driven through email increased by a massive 122% year on year.

Conversion rates have increased by 32%, with overall conversions is also up 37%.

Earning record revenue

2014 has been the most successful year to date for Gill’s online business with revenue up a significant 54% year on year.
